Board Coaching

Leadenhall was founded in 2011 and has become one of the City’s leading coaching practices. The Leadenhall Board Practice brings together many of our most experienced and capable coaches to serve the specific needs of boards and those who support them. Our coaches bring senior executive experience of working with boards, direct board experience (many are current or former Non-Executive Directors) and, naturally, considerable coaching experience.

The Practice provides services in three main areas:

Coaching of board members

We provide individual coaching of NEDs, Executive Directors, Committee Chairs or Chairs.  This takes many forms, from onboarding coaching, providing a sounding board to enhancing board effectiveness.

Coaching those who aspire to join a board

Moving from an executive role and mindset to a board mindset can be challenging for many people. Some people continue to hold executive roles and sit on boards and must adapt their approach and thinking to their different roles. We can help prepare people for the step into the board room.

Coaching and Workshops to those who support a board

Boards and their committees are supported by many executives from the organisation whether it be executive committee members, leaders of control functions (risk, compliance and audit), company secretarial and legal and many other functional leaders and technical specialists.

Ian White

Region: UK

Ian is a consultant and coach specialising in Board Effectiveness Reviews with clients ranging from FTSE100 companies to Not For Profits. He is not sector specific but about half of the reviews he undertakes are for regulated financial services firms (both single and dual regulated).

As well as his Board work, Ian is an APECS Certified Professional Executive Coach, trained as a Team Coach with Meyler Campbell and is a CEDR Accredited Mediator. He is also the Course Director of the Cranfield Non-Executive Director Programme, a Founder member Board Effectiveness Guild, regularly publishes on governance matters in journals such as Governance and consults on leadership matters for in-house and private practice lawyers. Earlier on in his career he had 20 years’ experience in Executive roles (principally General Counsel / Company Secretary) and is the co-author of Your Role as General Counsel: How to Survive and Thrive in Your Role.  He undertakes leadership work with both law firms and in-house legal teams.

Mark Prisk FRICS

Region: UK

Mark has worked for over thirty five years with senior leaders across business and Government, in and outside the boardroom. He has extensive experience of serving on both private and public sector boards, as well as coaching senior executives and others in leadership roles.

Mark started as a Chartered Surveyor in the UK commercial and residential markets. He then served as an MP for eighteen years. He was the Business & Enterprise Minister in the Coalition Government, chairing several business boards and councils. He then became the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to the Nordic & Baltic countries, promoting UK trade.  Mark stepped down from Parliament in 2019 and has built a third career as a Non-Exec Director and Chair and as a qualified Executive Coach (Henley Business School). Mark currently chairs the board of Saltaire Housing Ltd and Located Property Limited (an arm’s length body of the Department for Education). Mark’s coaching work encompasses senior leaders in both the private and public sectors, whilst providing pro bono mentoring to the young founders of tech start-ups.  Mark believes these different roles strengthen his coaching skills and insight into effective leadership and management.

Louise Taylor Walls

Region: UK

Louise is a board director of a financial services organisation and the chair of their Nominations and Remuneration Committee, as well as an experienced organisational coach.

She has over 25 years’ experience in the banking and finance, business information and professional services sectors and has worked internationally in general management, business transformation, programme management, business development, and events management roles. She brings her well-developed commercial acumen to the table in supporting her clients to make considered decisions on complex issues and helping them to build high performing organisations and teams.

Annette Andrews

Region: UK

Annette is an experienced former Chief People Officer, with deep knowledge and expertise across a broad range of areas in Human Resources. She is a qualified Executive Coach and Mentor and has worked with Boards, CEOs, Executive Committees and senior leaders on a global basis for 30+ years.

Her corporate career spanned different sectors and included Ford Motor Company, Lloyds Banking Group and the Lloyd’s Insurance Market, all regulated businesses.

She is an experienced Executive and Non-Executive member of the Remuneration and Nomination committees, taking an advisory role to Boards and Executive Committees. She also has an MBA, a Postgraduate Certificate in Coaching for Behavioural Change and is a Fellow of the CIPD.  She is currently a Non-Executive Director and Remuneration Committee Chair for Foxtons, the Estate Agent, and for Esure Insurance.

Rachael Hanley Browne

Region: UK

Rachael works with boards, executives, and senior leaders, particularly subject matter experts including academics, scientists, technologists, and engineers. She supports leadership groups in navigating complex organisational systems and aligning individual and collective effectiveness.

She brings a systemic approach to change, integrating organisational context with leadership capability to enable meaningful transformation. Her work spans board development, executive alignment, and organisation-wide culture change, with a particular focus on team-of-teams approaches in complex environments.

Rachael has over 30 years’ experience in international talent management, leadership development, and commercial consulting. Her career includes senior roles at Harvey Nash Group PLC, Ashridge Business School, and the US Centre for Creative Leadership. She has also held non-executive roles, led start-ups, and served as EMCC Global Council Chair.

Stephen Sidebottom

Region: UK

Stephen is an executive coach, board director, and senior leader with over 30 years’ experience supporting C-suite and senior executives internationally. His career spans HR leadership and COO roles across global financial institutions, including Standard Chartered, Nomura International, Commerzbank, and Barclays Capital.

He is currently Chair of the Institute of Risk Management and an independent member of the ANZ Europe Remuneration Committee.

Stephen’s coaching focuses on equilibrium, salience, value creation, and congruence, helping leaders align wellbeing, priorities, and performance. He brings a deeply international perspective, having lived and worked across the UK, US, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
